AGRICULTURAL PRODUCE COMMISSION
Serving Western Australian Agricultural Producers

The Agricultural Produce Commission Act (APC) was set up in 1988 to provide Western Australian agricultural producers with the legal framework to collect funds to provide for the development of their industry sector.

The Commissioners – Four Commissioners with agricultural and financial experience are appointed for a three year period to oversee the work of the industry groups and ensure that all procedures are carried out in accordance with the Act. The Funds of the APC committees are audited by the Auditor General and the annual report is tabled in Parliament.

  Functions of the Commission

  1. Establish producers’ committees in relation to agricultural produce;
  2. Appoint members to producers’ committees;
  3. Advertise for the formation of producers’ committees;
  4. Conduct polls as prescribed under this Act for the purposes of the establishment and operation of producers’ committees;
  5. Dissolve producers’ committees and appoint liquidators for the winding up of producers’ committees;
  6. Provide such services in relation to the functioning of producers’ committees as are necessary from time to time;
  7. Direct, coordinate and supervise the functions and expenditure of producers’ committees; and
  8. Provide such other services to producers’ committees as the Minister may direct.

What agricultural produce is covered by the APC?

The APC assists horticultural and other agricultural industries - except broadacre cropping and grazing. Horticultural industries can include; wine, fruit, vegetables, juices, nuts, turf, flowers and wine. Examples of other agriculture commodities that are covered by the APC Act are; pork, poultry and the bee keeping industries.
